HOW TO APPLY FOR A PERMIT
Municipality &
Building Inspector
FIRST THINGS FIRST...
The first step in the building application process is figuring out what municipality you are building in and who your building inspector is.

All Croix Inspection's contracted municipalities and how to determine municipality can be found on our Service Areas page.

The next step is to determine the application that you need. Generally each project has its own application procedure and documents needed. Please click on the application type below to be brought to the process for that project.

Do I Even Need a Permit?
If you are questioning whether you need a permit or not, every municipality has different parameters dictated within their building ordinance. However, if you are altering or remodeling a dwelling and the project affects structure strength, exits, natural light, ventilation, electrical, or sanitation a permit is generally required.

Outbuilding permit requirements may be dependent on size or amenities.

Commercial builds (both temporary and permanent) almost always require a building permit.

New dwellings (both permanent and temporary) require a permit.

Construction started without a permit can lead to daily fines and double fees.
